Aiden McGeady was born on 4 April 1986, in Scotland. He was a forward primarily playing as a left winger. Standing 5ft 10in (1.8m) tall and weighing 11st 6lb (73kg), he commanded a strong presence on the pitch.
In July 2002, at a young age, McGeady signed with Celtic as a trainee. From the season 2003-2004 to the season 2009-2010, McGeady had an illustrious time at Celtic, making appearances regularly and contributing significant goals each season. His performances for Celtic were often lauded, and he quickly became a Celtic hero. His best season at Celtic was the 2007-2008 campaign, where he made 36 appearances, scoring seven goals in league matches.
After eight years at Celtic, in August 2010, McGeady transferred to Spartak Moscow in the Russian Premier League for a substantial fee of around £9.5m. He continued to show his skill and dedication by making significant contributions to the team consistently in each season.
In January 2014, McGeady transferred from Spartak Moscow to Everton in the English Premier League for a fee of around £2m. His gameplay at Everton, although not as prolific as in Celtic, was appreciated.
McGeady moved on to loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Preston North End, before transferring to Sunderland in the Championship for a fee of around £250k in July 2017. He had a stint on loan at Charlton Athletic, before returning to Sunderland and ultimately transferring to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership in July 2022. His football journey continued in Scotland with Ayr United in the Championship, before a transfer in October 2024.
Throughout his career, Aiden McGeady showed his prowess on the field and etched his place in football, especially during his years at Celtic, where his performances were nothing short of stellar. His commitment to the sport and to every team he was a part of, was evident in every game he played. His contributions to Celtic will always be remembered fondly by the Celtic faithful.
