Alan Stubbs, a solid defender standing at 6ft 2in and weighing 14st 4lb, was born on the 6th of October 1971. An Englishman by birth, he's made a name for himself in the football scene on both sides of the border.
His last hurrah on the playing field was at Derby County, bagging a single appearance in the 2008 - 2009 season. He wasn't exactly spoiling the Derby supporters with his presence either in the previous 2007 - 2008 campaign, emerging on the pitch a seemingly paltry eight times.
Before Derby, there was Everton. Stubbs answered the Toffees' call for a second stint, in which his performances can politely be termed 'quietly consistent.' He logged a modest eight performances and netted once in 2007 - 2008, but this was no vast departure from his record in the '06 - '07 and '05 - '06 campaigns. His Baines-to-Barkley consistency was broken up with sporadic goal-scoring, two goals in 23 games for the former and none in 14 for the latter.
Erstwhile, he turned out in the red and white of Sunderland, adding another 10 appearances and a single goal to his tally in the 2005 - 2006 season.
Taking a step back brings us to his initial Everton tenure. He remained reasonably busy here, adding another goal to his name in 31 appearances during '04 - '05, after which he cooled off a bit to 27 appearances in '03 - '04, then add 35 undecorated outings in '02 - '03 and two goals in '01 - '02.
Afore Everton, Celtic fans were treated to Stubbs' defensive prowess. He notched a respectable number of appearances, and even slipped in a goal during the 2000 - 2001 season. A trend that maintained throughout his time in the hooped jersey, with a smattering of goals supplementing his steady but unspectacular form.
Pulling the timeline back further, Stubbs became a familiar face at Bolton Wanderers, putting in a significant number of appearances over several seasons. He kicked off his professional career at Bolton in the 1990 - 1991 season, amassing a steady 23 appearances, a number which bloomed to an appreciable 42 by the '92 -'93 season, even managing to add a sprinkle of goals alongside.
