Benjamin Siegrist, born 31 January 1992 in Switzerland, currently treads the field as the goalkeeper for Rapid Bucuresti, standing a formidable 6ft 5in tall (1.96m), and weighing 15st 3lb (97kg). His career in the beautiful game extends well beyond the borders of Romania, having also kept goal for the national team of Switzerland.
July 2012 set the stage for Siegrist's foray into the English Premier League, with his transition to impressively named Aston Villa. A year later, in November 2013, he took on a loan spell at Burton Albion in England's League One. A second loan spell beckoned in March 2014, this time at Cambridge United in the very same league. His initial season at Cambridge, spanning 2013-2014, saw him make three appearances on the pitch.
Fast forward to March 2016, and once again we watched Siegrist trade in the claret and blue strip of Aston Villa for a loan contract with Wycombe Wanderers of the League One. His tenure with Wycombe consisted of a single appearance during the 2015 - 2016 season. Aston Villa and England were ultimately left behind, with July 2016 seeing Siegrist taking up his gloves for Vaduz in Switzerland. His period at Vaduz was marked by 27 league appearances during the 2016 - 2017 season, followed by a quite leaner tally of 5 appearances in the successive 2017 - 2018 season.
In July 2018, a shift northwards came to pass with Siegrist signing for Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership. More significantly, this chapter of his career witnessed a surge in his involvement on the field, featuring in 32 matches for Dundee United in the 2020 - 2021 season, and impressively enhancing that count to 34 during the 2021 - 2022 season.
An equally monumental career move awaited in July 2022, with Siegrist making the transition to the Premiership heavyweights, Celtic. His two-season stint at Celtic is a crucial chapter of his football journey, followed by a somewhat surprising sign-off to Rapid Bucuresti in Romania in July 2024. Siegrist has had a decent start in the current 2024 - 2025 season at his new Romanian club, already having eight first-team league appearances under his belt.
Siegrist's time at Celtic marked a significant period in his career where he continued to showcase his mettle as a reliable and commanding figure between the sticks. During his tenure at the club, he was a regular in the first team, showing off his shot-stopping abilities and quick reflexes that made him a fan favourite. While the details of his transfer to Rapid Bucuresti remain undisclosed, his impact and contributions to the Celtic side during his time in Glasgow remain in the memories of the Celtic faithful.
