Dylan McGeouch, born in the throes of winter on the 15th of January, 1993 (now gracing the grand age of 32), hails from the chilly mountains of Scotland. This robust midfielder, serving his duty as a central force for Carlisle United, can easily be spotted in the number 21 jersey. Measuring up at 1.78m (5ft 10in), McGeouch's silhouette is not one to be trifled with, particularly considering his 69kg (10st 12lb) stature.
Our story begins back in July 2011, when McGeouch, fresh on the Scottish Premiership scene and brimming with youthful eagerness, transferred from Rangers to Celtic. The fee? Well, that's still anyone's guess. The powers that be decided to keep it a sparkling mystery.
From the heyday of his debut season with Celtic (2011 - 2012), to his last season (2014 - 2015), McGeouch had a fair run. Though his on-pitch presence steadily dwindled, starting off at six appearances and trickling down to a solitary appearance by his final season.
In January 2014, with the Scottish winter chill in full swing, McGeouch traded Celtic green for Coventry blue, heading down to England's Championship on a loan spell. He secured eight first team appearances, which, for a temporary residence, is nothing to sniff at.
Returning to Celtic in July that same year, McGeouch then chalked a new chapter in his football journey, this time with Hibernian, where he was loaned in September 2014. From the 2014-2015 season to the 2017-2018 season, McGeouch hustled his way through a commendable 92 first team appearances and even found the back of the net twice. Well, they do say practice makes perfect, don't they?
Despite his lengthy loan period, his transfer to Hibernian from Celtic came with a certain air of inevitability in August 2015. Once again, the exact fee slipped into the realm of the undisclosed. His stint at Hibernian was a testament to his work ethic, making 19-35 first-team appearances per season on average.
The summer of July 2018 saw him venture south to England's Championship, joining the ranks of Sunderland. Despite efforts to prove his worth at Sunderland, McGeouch found himself transferring north once again, to Aberdeen, in January 2020, for, you guessed it an undisclosed fee. While his appearances scored roughly in the teens of the next few seasons, his impact on the pitch was much more profound.
In June 2022, our hero, McGeouch, transferred away from Aberdeen, the credential of his next club, challenging even the most committed of sleuths. However, by November 2022, we find him at Forest Green Rovers in England's National League, where he made a decent handful of 13 appearances over the course of the season.
Thereafter, McGeouch packed his bags headed off to Carlisle United in League Two by July 2023. In the present season, McGeouch has made a modest count of six appearances. The cherry on his relatively under-baked cake is his participation in the EFL Trophy 2024-2025 for Carlisle United, marking his name down with one start, and hopefully, many more to come.
