Freddie Ljungberg, born on 16th April 1977 in Sweden, is a 47 years old football stalwart admired for his talent in the midfield. Primarily performing as a central attacking midfielder, Ljungberg currently represents Mumbai City FC, donning the Number 8 jersey. Standing at a respectable 5ft 9in (1.76m) and weighing 11st 11lb (75kg), his versatility and athleticism are well noted.
Ljungberg's journey into the football magnate world began in February 1982 when he joined Halmstads BK in the Allsvenskan as a trainee. His evolution was noteworthy as he scored a cumulative of ten goals over five seasons, making up to 24 appearances in a season.
His performance caught the attention of Arsenal, and in September 1998, he was transferred to the English Premier League for a figure around £3.3m. During his tenure with the Gunners, he was a prolific contributor, scoring a total of 36 goals over nine seasons, with his most productive season (2001-2002) seeing him net 12 times.
In July 2007, Ljungberg made a £3m move to West Ham United. He scored two goals in his first season, marking a decent start to his journey with the Hammers. Post this, he traversed the Atlantic and joined Seattle Sounders FC in the Major League Soccer (MLS), followed by a short stint at Chicago Fire, demonstrating his adaptability to different footballing conditions and cultures.
In January 2011, Ljungberg was transferred to Celtic FC, marking his entry into the Scottish Premiership. However, his short spell at Celtic wasn't as fruitful as expected, with him making only seven first-team appearances, and no goal to his tally. The details do not overwhelm, yet his contribution to Celtic during his brief stint, though not gilded in goals, did carry weight.
Shortly after, Ljungberg moved to Shimizu S-Pulse in Japan's J2 League, marking another cultural shift in his illustrious career. His time at Shimizu S-Pulse saw him make only eight appearances. He then joined Mumbai City FC in January 2015, where he continues to compete. Unfortunately, he did not make any appearances in the 2020 season, perhaps alluding to an end of his journey on field.
