Jeremie Frimpong, born on 10 December 2000, is a Dutch-born right back, currently donning the number 30 jersey for Bayer Leverkusen. Measuring 1.74m tall (5ft 8in), the strongly built player weighs 70kg (11 stone). While playing for Leverkusen, Frimpong not only represents his club, but also his native Netherlands on the international stage.
It is worth recalling that Frimpong started his football journey in England as a trainee at Premier League giants Manchester City back in July 2015. However, Frimpong's first significant break came when he transferred to Celtic, a club firmly rooted in Scotland's Premiership, in September 2019. The move was a modest one financially, costing the club only around £350k.
During his time at Celtic – somewhat brief yet quite impactful – Frimpong saw considerable playtime. His debut season, in 2019 - 2020, saw him feature in 14 league matches and find the back of the net twice. His contribution was undiminished in his second season with Celtic, where he made 22 outings and scored a goal.
The resilient right-back's talent was duly acknowledged and earned him a big money move to Bundesliga club, Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021 for an estimated £12m. At Leverkusen, Frimpong soon became a mainstay in the starting lineup. Over the past four seasons, he featured in a remarkable 110 first team matches, scoring a commendable 21 times.
It should also be noted that Frimpong’s time in Germany has seen him playing in high-intensity football, including, significantly, Euro 2024 for the Netherlands and the Europa League 2023 - 2024 season for Bayer Leverkusen, where he scored three goals in six starts and four substitute appearances. In his contributions to teams and competitions, Frimpong undeniably is a player whose future is eagerly anticipated, both for his clubs and for the Netherlands national team.
