With his football roots firmly planted in the Republic of Ireland, Liam Scales was born on the 8th of August 1998 and primarily operates as a central defender for Celtic. Standing at an imposing height of 6ft 2in (1.88m) and weighing around 13st 5lb (85kg), Scales can be seen donning the number 5 jersey. He also boasts the honour of having represented the Rep. of Ireland national team.
As our trusty source Transfermarkt reports, Scales currently holds a market value of approximately £3.5m with his Celtic contract set to see him through until the end of May 2028.
Scales commenced his professional journey with UCD in the First Division in Rep. Ireland, signing for an undisclosed fee in January 2017. He managed to make a remarkable impression in his debut season in 2019 with 30 first-team appearances and one goal to his name. He built on this momentum, transferring to Shamrock Rovers in the Premier Division in January 2020 and making 16 first-team appearances and scoring two goals in his tenure there.
In August 2021, Scales made the journey from Shamrock Rovers to the green heart of Glasgow, joining Celtic in the Premiership. His first season, 2021/2022, saw him make five appearances with one goal, paving the way for future success. Taking brief leave, Scales spent the 2022/2023 season on loan at fellow Premiership side Aberdeen, amassing 31 first team appearances and once again finding the back of the net.
Upon the end of his loan term with Aberdeen, Scales returned to Celtic for the 2023/2024 season. He has since proven to be a reliable figure in the Celtic defence, with 34 appearances and one goal in 2023/2024, and 11 appearances and counting in the current 2024/2025 season.
Crucially, Scales has also made his presence felt on the continental and international stage, featuring in Celtic's Champions League campaign in 2023/2024 and 2024/2025, the League Cup in 2024/2025, and the Scottish Cup in 2023/2024. He has also shown promise representing Rep. of Ireland, making three starts in the Euro Qualifiers 2022 - 2024 and scoring once in the Nations League 2024 - 2025.
