Born on 5 February 1997, Patrick Roberts is a 27-year-old English footballer playing as a right winger for Sunderland. Standing at a height of 5ft 5in (1.67m) and weighing 10st 5lb (66kg), he dons the number 10 jersey for his current club.
Roberts commenced his professional career in July 2012 when he joined English Premier League club, Fulham. During his stint at Fulham, Roberts had a meagre 19 appearances over two seasons. Nonetheless, his potential was spotted by Premier League giants, Manchester City, who snatched him up for around £11m in July 2015.
His time at Manchester City was brief with only one first team appearance in the league. Roberts sought more game time and found himself shipped off to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on loan in February 2016. His two and a half season spell at Celtic was brimming with success. In his debut season, he made 11 first team appearances, scoring six goals. The following season saw Roberts make 32 appearances, adding nine goals to his tally. His final season at Celtic, however, experienced a declining run as he made only 12 first team appearances with no goals.
In an attempt to rejuvenate his career, Roberts once again set his sights towards greener pastures. He had numerous loan spells ranging from the English Championship to the Spanish La Liga, and even French Ligue 2. Despite constant moves, he struggled to find consistent form and struggled to make an impact.
It was not until Roberts found himself at Sunderland in January 2022 where he was able to rekindle some of his earlier form. In his very first season, he tallied 42 first team appearances and scored five goals, and though his second season saw reduced appearances, he still managed to hold a regular place in the starting line-up. In the ongoing 2024-2025 season, Roberts seems to be back on track, having made eight first team appearances and notching one goal thus far.
Despite the turbulence throughout his career, Roberts continues to display promise with a burning desire for success. His resilience coupled with his natural talent could see him recapture the golden days of his time at Celtic during his tenure at Sunderland.
