Ross Doohan, a Scottish born footballer on the 29th of March 1998, currently serves on the front lines within the goalkeeping repertoire of Aberdeen Football Club. Standing at a towering 6 foot 1 inch (1.86 metres), and weighing in at a formidable 11 stone 11 pounds (75kg), Doohan holds the responsibilities of the number 31 jersey.
At present, his marketable worth is approximately 250,000 euros, which equates to about £213,000, according to the financial estimations from Transfermarkt. Keeping in mind that his tenure at Aberdeen is nearing the end, with a contract set to expire on the day of 31 May 2025.
Before settling in at Aberdeen, Doohan's journey was scattered with several diverse experiences. In August 2017, he embarked on the first loan journey away from Celtic to Greenock Morton, followed by another year-long stint at Ayr United the following year. Both clubs situated in the Scottish Championship.
As 2020 dawned, Doohan once again had to pack his gloves and shin pads, leaving Celtic Park for a short stay at Ross County, marking his return to Premiership football. During this spell, Doohan made a rather modest contribution of five appearances in the first team for league matches.
2021 saw the keeper partake in another loan spell, this time to Dundee United. However, his contribution did not noticeably increase, making only two appearances throughout the season. Doohan’s time in the Scottish top flight was not over yet, though. He returned to Celtic briefly before being loaned out yet again, not to another Scottish club, but this time to Tranmere Rovers in England's League Two.
Despite the change of scenery, the stopper seemed to find his footing at The Rovers, earning 25 first-team appearances, an admirable increase from his previous Celtic exits. Thus marking his most successful season based on involvement. However, this success also signaled an end to his loan spells.
As summer 2022 commenced, Doohan returned to Celtic with his deal at Tranmere having come to an end. However, marking a turning point in his career, Doohan made a permanent switch to Tranmere for an undisclosed fee in July.
Not one for staying still, January of 2023 found Doohan on the move again. Leaving behind the comfort of Tranmere Rovers for a new venture at Forest Green Rovers in the lower reaches of the National League. Ten appearances later, Doohan was on the move again, this time, back to his home nation with Aberdeen.
He has since made a relatively modest contribution at his new club, tallying only two appearances in the 2023-2024 season and one appearance so far in the current season. Showing his versatility, he also participated in both the Scottish Cup and the League Cup for Aberdeen, managing a single start in each competition.
Doohan's journey depicts a story of progression and perseverance through the ranks of British football. Despite the numerous transfers and varying degrees of success, the trust Aberdeen show in his abilities suggest his story is not yet fully written. His imminent contract expiration will perhaps open another chapter in his narrative, one we await with interest.
