Ryan Christie, born on the 22nd of February in 1995, is a Scottish footballer who currently plies his trade in the middle of the park for Bournemouth FC, where he assumes the role of a central attacking midfielder. Standing at a height of 1.78m (5ft 10in) and weighing in at approximately 71kg (11st 2lb), Christie is known for his quick footwork and a keen eye for goal. He proudly wears the number 10 on his back and has the honour of representing his country's colours at the senior international level.
Christie's professional career began in 2011 when he joined Inverness Caledonian Thistle in Scotland's League One. Over the course of three seasons, he made 63 league appearances and netted ten goals. He also enjoyed a couple of loan spells – one at Inverness Caledonian Thistle and another at Aberdeen FC, where, in two combined seasons, he made 45 appearances and found the back of the net ten times.
In 2015, Christie made his move to Celtic for a fee rumoured to be around £500k. This marked an important transition in his career, with the stakes higher and expectations greater than ever before. At Celtic, he showed promise, making appearances in the league across six seasons. In his first season, he made his mark by scoring on his fifth appearance. In the subsequent season, he repeated the same feat. His standout season came in 2019 – 2020 when he racked up an impressive 11 goals in 24 appearances. The final seasons of his stint at Celtic saw him continue to contribute consistently, making a combined total of 38 appearances and scoring six goals.
In the summer of 2021, Christie set his sights away from Scotland and Celtic, and made a move to Bournemouth. The transfer fee agreed between the two clubs remains undisclosed. Over the course of three seasons, Christie has made a total of 107 appearances in league football for Bournemouth and has scored six goals. He continues to be a crucial part of Bournemouth's set-up in the 2024 – 2025 season, with 28 appearances to his name and two goals already on the scoresheet.
Christie's contributions are not only limited to domestic football. Internationally, he has represented Scotland in the Euro 2024, where he started once and made two substitute appearances, and in the Euro Qualifiers between 2022-2024, where he started four times and came off the bench four times. In addition to this, he has also made appearances in the Nations League and has a goal to his name from five starts and one substitute appearance. His talents also extend to cup competitions, having started for Bournemouth in the FA Cup and League Cup during the 2024-2025 season.
