Shane Duffy is an Irish footballer, born on 1 January 1992, currently plying his trade as a central defender at Norwich City. At 6ft 3in (1.93m) and weighing 11st 13lb (76kg), Duffy is a formidable presence in the heart of any defence. He dons the number 4 jersey for his club.
Duffy began his professional career at Everton in the Premier League in 2007. He made a total of five appearances for the club in the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
Like many young players, Duffy benefited from loan spells in the lower leagues. In March 2011, he went to Burnley in the Championship, making one appearance. After returning to Everton, another loan spell followed, this time at Scunthorpe United in the National League North, where he made 18 appearances and scored two goals during the 2011 - 2012 season.
His most productive loan spell came with Yeovil Town in the National League in the 2013 - 2014 season, putting in 37 appearances and scoring one goal. This form earned him a permanent move to Blackburn Rovers in the Championship in September 2014, for approximately £1.5m, where he remained for two seasons, establishing himself as a first-team regular.
In August 2016, Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion came calling, securing Duffy's services for around £4.5m. He played a key role in Brighton's defence over five seasons, making more than 100 appearances and finding the net on multiple occasions.
In September 2020, Duffy took on a new challenge at Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, joining on loan. Despite his stint only spanning a single season, his time at the club was noteworthy. Duffy made 18 appearances, scoring three goals. The emerald green of Celtic suited Duffy, his physical playing style endearing him to the Celtic Park faithful during his brief tenure.
Following his time in Scotland, Duffy returned to Brighton and later joined Fulham on loan, before making a permanent switch in January 2023. His stay at Craven Cottage was brief, moving to his current club Norwich City in July 2023. Duffy has since established himself as a regular in the Norwich defence, making 45 appearances and scoring one goal. Beyond league football, Duffy featured once as a substitute in the League Cup 2024 - 2025 for Norwich City and started twice in the Championship Play-offs 2023 - 2024.
