Born on 25 January 1987 in DR Congo (formerly Zaire), Youssouf Mulumbu is a seasoned midfielder known for his steadfast presence in the central defence. Currently, he plays for French side, Orléans, donning the number 29 jersey. Standing at 5ft 10in (1.78m) tall and weighing 11st 13lb (76kg), his physicality is a notable part of his style of play.
Mulumbu began his professional career as a trainee at Ligue 1 side, Paris Saint-Germain, in July 2006. Following a couple of seasons with limited League appearances, he was loaned to Amiens in Ligue 2 in August 2007, where he achieved an elevated role by making 23 appearances and even netting a goal.
In February 2009, he took a step away from French soil and crossed the English channel to join then-Championship side, West Bromwich Albion, on loan. This move was made permanent in July 2009, amounting to a transfer fee of approximately £180k according to Transfermarkt.
During his tenure with West Bromwich Albion, Mulumbu became a regular fixture of the squad across seven seasons, making well over 100 appearances and contributing 13 goals. His time at the club saw him play in both the Championship and the Premier League, exhibiting consistency in his performances independent of the league tier.
July 2015 saw a change of scenery as Mulumbu transferred to Norwich City, another English club, where he played for two seasons but was faced with limited pitch time.
Scotland beckoned in November 2017 when he moved to Kilmarnock in the Premiership. The central midfielder had a more successful stint here, playing close to fifty games across three seasons and scoring twice.
Perhaps the most noteworthy chapter in his career was his transfer to Celtic in August 2018. His time at the club was brief, resulting in a single appearance. Yet, his connection to the storied club is significant to this Scottish fanzine. The midfield anchorman returned to Kilmarnock on loan in January 2019 before departing Celtic permanently in June of the same year.
Since then, his career has ventured to places as varied as a return stint at Kilmarnock, Saint Éloi Lupopo in his native DR Congo, and finally Orléans in France, where he is currently without a league appearance for the ongoing 2024-2025 season.
