Akil Wright, a strapping lad of 6 feet (1.83 metres) tall, born on the 13th of May 1996, finds himself plying his trade as a central defender for Ross County. Lugging around an 11 stone and 6 pounds (73kg) frame, he's been dubbed with the number 4 shirt. Not bad for a wee lad hailing from England.
Mr Wright's market value sits roughly around €200k, if my sources serve me right. Well, not my sources per se, rather the folk over at Transfermarkt. If I do my sums correctly that's around £170k. These currency conversions are a nightmare, aren't they? His current arrangement at Ross County is due to expire on the 30th of June 2027, having around 2 and a half years left on its lifespan.
But let’s journey back to March 2015, It was a turning point for our lad, having been transferred from Ilkeston Town to Fleetwood Town for a fee sweeter when whispered than said aloud. Following a short stint, he was loaned to Barrow in October 2016. During his debut season of 2016 - 2017, he managed to mark his name on the score sheet once across 24 appearances. Not too shabby for a lad still finding his feet.
Soon after, in July 2017, Wright boarded a bus from Fleetwood Town to Wrexham on loan, again. Here, he made a strong statement with 20 first-team appearances to his name. As fate would have it, Wright found his place in Wrexham when he was officially transferred in January 2018, contributing 20 more appearances to the team sheet.
The sands of time saw a couple of more changes of scenery for young Wright. In September 2020, he jumped ship from Wrexham to York City, and then onto Stockport County in July 2022. In his 2022 - 2023 season, he took to the pitch 27 times in the league for Stockport County.
Jumping forward, July 2024, Wright waved goodbye to Stockport County and said hello to Ross County in the Scottish Premiership, where at present, amidst the 2024 - 2025 season, he has tallied 23 appearances and managed to sneak in three cheeky little goals. He even featured in the League Cup for Ross County with four starts. Not bad at all for the now 28-year-old.
