Born on the 15th of October 1992, Angus MacDonald is a robust English central defender now plying his trade for Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen. Standing 6 feet tall (1.84 metres), MacDonald certainly has a physical presence on the pitch, and this is further complimented by his playing weight of 11 stone (70kg). He can regularly be spotted donning the number 27 jersey for his current team.
MacDonald commanded a market value of approximately £255k at the time of writing according to Transfermarkt. His contract with the Dons has 6 months remaining, and is set to expire at the end of May 2025. Transfermarkt serves as an accurate source for these financial figures.
The defender's journey began back in the summer of 2009 when he joined Reading. His lengthy English Football League career involved him belling the knot several times and performing for a host of clubs. His first notable loan spell was to Torquay United in the National League South in 2012. That season he made two first-team league appearances, but this tally improved dramatically the following season, reaching 14 appearances.
He returned to Reading in May 2012, only to be loaned out again in July that year to AFC Wimbledon and then back to Torquay in November. Angus found himself in Salisbury City colours in August 2013. The move proved to be fruitful as he made 29 first-team appearances and netted twice that season in league play.
In 2014, he was once again on the move, rejoining Torquay United where he left quite the mark with a substantial number of appearances and goals over the years, notably the 2015-2016 season where he scored twice in 41 appearances. In August 2016, he got his big break as Barnsley forked out around £100k to secure his services. After clocking up a significant number of appearances for Barnsley, Angus was snapped up by Hull City in the English Championship for an undisclosed fee in January 2018.
MacDonald's luck seemed to take a bit of a dip during his time at Hull City, making only a sparse number of appearances over the span of a few seasons. In August 2020, he took the decision to switch to Rotherham United in League One. Fast forward two years, he finds himself in Scotland playing for Aberdeen, coming via a brief stint at Swindon Town.
His time at Aberdeen has seen him establish a valuable presence in the back line, though it's worth noting the 2024-2025 season has only just kicked off. In the previous season, he clocked up a solid 21 first-team league appearances and seems set to build upon that foundation further in the current term. MacDonald's impressive contributions in the previous League Cup and the Scottish Cup campaigns, as well as the Conference League, cannot be understated.
