Ben McCrystal, a Scottish-born forward, came into the world on the 11th of March in 2006 and, at the ripe age of 19, plays primarily as a left winger for the lads at St Johnstone. Adorning the humble number 43 jersey, McCrystal is known to make quite a presence on the field. Not surprising, given the lad has but mere weeks left to make his mark with St Johnstone, with his contract set to expire on the 31st day of May, 2025.
Turning back the pages of McCrystal's career to July of 2021, we find the lad making the move from relative obscurity to joing St Johnstone in Scotland's Premiership. A momentous leap for any player, let alone one as young as McCrystal. His career would not stop there, however.
Come September of 2023 and McCrystal would find himself on the move again, this time trading the Premiership stages of St Johnstone to join Broomhill in the Lowland League in Scotland, albeit on loan. A step down in prestige perhaps, but no less significant in shaping the lad's career.
As the summer heat of July 2024 returned, so too did McCrystal to St Johnstone from his loan spell at Broomhill. A return to the Premiership was surely a welcome sight for the lad, and it is here we leave him, back where it all began. But for how long remains to be seen, as his contract's ticking clock continues to count down towards May 31, 2025.
