Born on 8th December 1963, the grizzled midfielder Brian McClair was a player who knew what to do in the centre of the park. Standing 5ft 10in and weighing 12st 8lb, the lad could hold his weight in the middle of the fray.
McClair ended his playing saga at Motherwell during the seasons of 1998-1999. Making a modest number of appearances, he trotted onto the Motherwell turf a mere 11 times in the season.
Prior to that, McClair had been a Manchester United man. By the end of his stint from 1987 to 1998, he'd donned the United colours in a variety of appearances ranging from a lowly 13 times in 1997-1998 to a hefty 42 times in 1992-1993. And let's not forget the suitable amount of goals that bloke added, the peak being 24 during the 1987-1988 season.
Before crossing the border to the theatrics of English football, McClair was quite the star for Celtic. Turning out impressively during the seasons of 1983-1987, he scored a whopping 35 times in the 1986-1987 season alone. We Celtic supporters still love a chin wag about that season, I'll tell you.
Before he joined our beloved Celtic, McClair was carving a career out in Motherwell. Tallying 28 appearances in the 1982-1983 season, and another 11 in the previous year, the young lad was getting his feet wet in the art of the beautiful game.
If we go back far enough, we'd find a young Brian McClair on the sidelines at Aston Villa in the 1980-1981 season. Took the step to leave Scotland and join Villa but sadly for him, he couldn't ear a starting berth that season.
