Chris Mepham, a robust defender primarily operating as a central figure, was born on the 5th of November, 1997, making him now 26 years of age. Burdened with English roots but defending the red dragon of Wales on an international level, Mepham can currently be found trading his wares at Sunderland. This stalwart of defence boasts an imposing figure, standing at 6ft 3in (1.91m) tall and weighing in at a healthy 11st 11lb (75kg).
Mepham first surfaced on the realms of professional football at Brentford, joining the English Premier League outfit in July 2016 as a trainee. The young defender eased himself into the rigours of first team football during the 2017 - 2018 season, making 21 appearances and chalking up a single goal. The following season saw Mepham consolidate his role within the squad, operating from the heart of defence in 22 league matches.
A year on, in January 2019, Mepham transferred his services from Brentford to fellow Premier League team Bournemouth, in a transfer that cost the coastal side around £12m. In his interim period at Bournemouth, Mepham held his place strongly, accumulating an impressive bank of appearances: 13 in the first truncated season followed by 12, 24, 22, 26 in the subsequent seasons, until a rather languid ten appearances in the 2023 - 2024 season.
In August 2024, Mepham found his way to Sunderland, shifting down a gear to the English Championship via a loan deal. At this time, the current 2024 - 2025 season has seen Mepham slotting into the team - donning the number 26 shirt - for four league matches for Sunderland.
Not just limited to club football, Mepham has also tasted international success with Wales. His role with the national team expanded during the course of the Euro 2022 -2024 qualifiers, which saw Mepham making nine starts. His commitment to the Welsh cause is similarly displayed in the Nations League 2024 - 2025, where Mepham found himself in the starting lineup once more.
