English-born Drey Wright, celebrated his 30th birthday on the 30th of April, 2024. He made his name in football as a forward, often fielded as a right winger. His talents are currently employed by St Johnstone, where he fashions the number 14 jersey. Standing at 5 feet 9 inches (1.77m) and with a fighting weight of 10 stone 12 pounds (69kg), Wright might not be the largest on the pitch, but he undoubtedly uses his physique to his advantage.
The latest evaluation of his market value has pegged him at roughly £300,000 according to Transfermarkt. His contract with St Johnstone remains active for another five months, due to expire on the 31st of May, 2025.
Looking back at his career, Drey Wright joined the ranks of Colchester United in England's League Two in July of 2012. He was a hopeful youngster, no doubt, and showed his dedication over the subsequent seasons. He clocked up a considerable number of first team appearances, which included 21 during his debut season (2012 - 2013) and included three goals. His involvement in first team activities fluctuated over the years, but his commitment remained unquestionable.
In 2018, Wright bid adieu to Colchester United and made his way north to Scotland, joining St Johnstone. He started off with 14 first team appearances in his first season (2018 - 2019) at St Johnstone and found the back of the net once. He continued to contribute to the squad over the next couple of seasons, leading up to his biggest season in 2022 - 2023 when he made 38 first team appearances and scored seven goals.
In what has probably become a pattern for Wright, he transferred once more in July of 2020, this time to Hibernian. However, after two seasons with Hibernian, Wright again transferred back to St Johnstone in July of 2022. And as we follow his journey year after year, we see that his love for the game remained undiminished. By the current 2024 - 2025 season, Wright has already made 20 first team appearances and scored one goal.
Clearly, Drey Wright is a journeyman of football, but his determination to contribute to the game, be it in England or in Scotland, stands as proof of his unwavering commitment to the sport.
