Englishman Ellery Balcombe was born on the 15th of October, 1999, and he swings his gloves for St Mirren nowadays. Standing tall at 6ft 3in (1.91m) and tipping the scales at 13st 3lb (84kg), he is indeed a prowess between the posts. No surprises he dons the number 1 jersey, an age-old demarcation of his custodial occupation.
The year 2024 finds Balcombe pretty active with St Mirren. As a starting choice, he has graced the pitch thrice for Premiership matches. League Cup and Conference League Qualifiers of the same year also bear his mark with one and four starts respectively.
Jumping back to his fledgling days, it seems the debut season 2022-2023 at Crawley Town in England proved quite busy for Balcombe. He made ten first team appearances in that term, a decent start for a goalkeeper on his maiden voyage. Honestly though, I couldn't care less about his time at Crawley or Bristol.
On a side note though, Bristol Rovers reaped the benefits of his skills in the following season, with Balcombe adding five first team appearances to his CV. As he journeyed further north since and into the colder climes of Scotland, he's managed three first team appearances for St Mirren during the season 2024 - 2025.
In a nutshell, Balcombe seems to be dipping his toes in deeper waters now. Will he make a splash? Only time will tell. For now, he is just another name in a long list of English goalkeepers leaving their mark, or desperately trying to, on Scottish soil.
