Scottish forward Gary Mackay-Steven was born on 31 August 1990. Predominantly a left winger, he currently plays for Kilmarnock, donning the number 14 jersey. Mackay-Steven stands at 1.75m (5ft 8in) and weighs 70kg (11st).
In January 2011, he began his journey into high-level football with Airdrieonians in the Scottish Championship, initially making 19 first team appearances in league matches during his debut season.
In July 2011, Mackay-Steven transferred to Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership. Between seasons 2011 and 2015, he played a total of 110 games, netting 21 goals.
February 2015 marked a significant change in Mackay-Steven's career as he transferred to Celtic for a modest fee of GBP 250k. With the Hoops, he made a debut splash, scoring four goals in his first 13 appearances in the 2014-2015 season. His following season was equally impressive, netting another four goals across 25 league appearances. However, his time on the pitch dwindled by the 2016-2017 season, marking just eight appearances.
July 2017 saw Mackay-Steven move to Aberdeen for around GBP 150k. Here, he netted nine goals from 51 appearances during two seasons in the Scottish Premiership.
In a surprising turn, Mackay-Steven made a transatlantic move to American club New York City FC in the Major League Soccer in July 2019. Over two seasons, he put in 34 appearances and scored three goals.
By January 2021, Mackay-Steven had returned to Scottish soil, this time with Hearts in the Premiership. Across two seasons, he made 36 appearances and scored twice.
After a brief transfer in June 2023, Mackay-Steven joined Kilmarnock in December 2023. As of the 2024-2025 season, he has made 18 appearances for the team. Furthermore, he represented Kilmarnock in the League Cup 2024-2025 with one start and made two appearances as a substitute in the Conference League Qualifiers 2024-2025.
