Scottish born on 7 May 1995, Jack Hendry is a 29-year-old defender currently showcasing his expertise as a central defender for Al-Ettifaq. With a height of 6ft 4in (1.94m) and a weight of 13st 12lb (88kg), the Scot makes an imposing figure on the field.
Hendry cut his teeth in professional football with Partick Thistle in Scotland's Championship, joining in July 2014. He had a rather quiet start, making only one first team appearance in league matches in his debut season and three in the following season.
In September 2015, Hendry made a move to England, transferring to Wigan Athletic in League One for a reported fee of around £250k. His stint there was brief, as by March 2016, he was loaned to Shrewsbury Town in the same league. This proved to be another modest season for Hendry, with just six first team appearances for the club.
Hendry continued his loan spell in England, this time with MK Dons in League Two, where he made seven league appearances in the 2016 - 2017 season. The defender finally returned to his home turf in July 2017 after transferring from Wigan Athletic to Dundee in the Premiership.
It was at Dundee that Hendry began to step up his game, making 24 first team appearances and netting one goal in league matches during the 2017 - 2018 season. This perked the interest of Celtic, to whom he was transferred for a sum of around £1.5m in January 2018.
The 2017 - 2018 and 2018 - 2019 seasons with Celtic offered Hendry opportunities to further solidify his status in the Scottish Premiership. With 15 first team appearances over two seasons, Hendry contributed to Celtic’s title-winning campaigns. His time at Celtic, though brief, left an indelible imprint on the tapestry of the club's glorious history.
On loan, Hendry transferred from Celtic to Melbourne City in the A-League in January 2020, where he made two league appearances in the 2019 - 2020 season. By July 2020, he was on the move again - this time to Belgium's Derde Klasse, where he joined Oostende on loan. Hendry gradually got back into his stride, making 27 league appearances and scoring twice in the 2020 - 2021 season and featured six times the following season.
After a successful loan spell, Oostende secured Hendry permanently for around £1.5m from Celtic in July 2021. His time with Oostende was indeed fruitful, contributing two goals in 27 league appearances. However, his stay in the Belgian side was short-lived. He was transferred to Club Brugge for a hefty fee of about £6m in August 2021 where he cemented his place with 24 league appearances over two seasons.
In September 2022, Hendry was loaned out to Cremonese in Italy's Serie B, making four first team league appearances. Returning to Club Brugge after his loan spell, he made five more league appearances in the 2022 - 2023 season. By July 2023, a move was on the cards again, this time to Al-Ettifaq in the Professional League in Saudi Arabia, for a transfer fee close to £5.9m.
As of 2024 - 2025 season, Hendry has yet to make his debut appearance for Al-Ettifaq. The globe-trotting Scot continues to prove his mettle in novel territories, embodying a true ambassador of the beautiful game.
