We spin the tape back to the 19th of February 1993 to find when and where Jason Holt, renowned central midfielder made his entrance to this world, deigning it suitable in Scotland, of all places. A sprinkling of numbers now: short for a footballer at 5ft 4in (1.64m), weighs in at a respectable eleven stone (70kg).
Currently seen prancing around the field in a St Johnstone kit that fits quite snugly around his #7. According to Transfermarkt (or so they claim), Holt's worth around €300k, for our sake, that's £255k, give or take a bob or two. His contract, set to expire on the 31st of May 2026, still has 1 year and 8 months left, like an oversteeped cup of tea.
The odyssey of this career first sees our protagonist arriving at Hearts in 2010, in the mysterious lands of the Scottish Premiership. His record over five seasons at the club, concludes with 62 appearances and 7 goals, impressive for some, underwhelming for others.
In a fleeting fancy in November 2011, Holt was lent to Raith Rovers, in the Scottish Championship, where he managed to clock in five appearances and a goal as a souvenir. A few months later, in January 2012, he was hauled back to Hearts.
2015 ushered in a brief sojourn to Sheffield United, courtesy of another loan. The stint managed to squeeze out a decent 16 appearances and 5 goals, which, mathematically speaking, is a goal every 3.2 games, for the statistically inclined amongst you.
Our journey then takes an interesting turn to the promised land of Rangers in 2015, in a transaction valued around £65,000. Holt spent 3 seasons there, stacking up his stats to a respectable 89 appearances and 12 goals.
After a brief stint at Fleetwood Town (2018), and a loan spell at St Johnstone (2019), Holt's wandering saw him land at Livingston in 2020. Four seasons there meant an admirable tally of 137 appearances and 2 goals. But one mustn't ever get too comfortable, must they?
In August 2024, Holt packed his bags for another tour of duty at St Johnstone. He's currently still there, with a career that's seen him through just 3 games in the current season.
And there we have it, the riveting chronicle of Jason Holt, a player conjured in the crucible of Scottish football, persisting in his journey through torrential downpours, icy winds and the occasional Scottish sunshine.
