Joe Wright, born on the 26th of February, 1995, is a stalwart block in the defensive line-up of Kilmarnock. Born in England, he typically takes centre stage as the central defender. Boasting an imposing stature at 6 feet 3 inches (1.93m), he carries his 12 stone 6 pounds frame (79kg) with assured agility. Number 4 on the jersey, his role on the pitch is far from marginal.
Wright's journey through football didn't start with the emerald green of Kilmarnock. In July 2012, he found his roots in Huddersfield Town, then in League One in England. Three years later, in July 2015, Accrington Stanley, a League Two club, borrowed his services from Huddersfield.
His debut 2015 - 2016 season with Accrington Stanley saw him grace the pitch in 20 first team league matches. It wasn't long before his potential was noted by a new suitor.
In July 2016, Wright marched from Huddersfield Town in League One towards Doncaster Rovers, then playing in League Two. Here, he had a commendable two-season spell, making 22 appearances in the 2016 - 2017 season and improving on that tally with 25 appearances in the 2017 - 2018 season.
The Scottish Premiership beckoned Wright in July 2022 when he made the move to Kilmarnock. His contributions have been vital. In his 2022 - 2023 season, he featured in 34 first team league matches, finding the back of the net five times. The following 2023 - 2024 season saw him make another solid 29 appearances and add three more goals to his portfolio. As for the ongoing 2024 - 2025 season, he's already been on the field seven times.
Beyond league games, Wright has a well-rounded presence, participating in several tournaments. He made his mark in the 2024 - 2025 League Cup for Kilmarnock with a start and carried this into the 2023 - 2024 Scottish Cup with two starts. His European forays include two starts in the 2024 - 2025 Europa League Qualifiers and four starts in the Conference League Qualifiers that same season. He embellished his European endeavours scoring one goal in the process.
