Jonathan Afolabi, born on 14 January 2000 in the Republic of Ireland, is a striking forward for SC Cambuur. At 24 years of age, he stands 6ft 2in (1.89m) tall and has a weight of 11st 4lb (72kg). Afolabi is primarily recognised for his performances as a lead striker.
The footballer's journey began in July 2016 when he joined Southampton in the Premier League as a trainee. A noteworthy step in his career took place in August 2019, as Afolabi transferred from Southampton to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
The striker's tenure at Celtic was characterised by multiple loan transfers. In January 2020, Afolabi was loaned out to Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Championship. Just ten months later in September 2020, he was on the move again, this time to Dundee in the Scottish Premiership on loan. A similar pattern occurred in August 2021, as Afolabi was loaned out to Ayr United in the Scottish Championship, and in February 2022 to Airdrieonians in the same league.
Afolabi's Celtic saga finally came to an end in August 2022 as he transferred from the Scottish giants to the Irish squad Bohemian FC in the Premier Division. In his debut season, Afolabi made three first-team appearances in league matches. However, he found his stride in the following season, making 34 first-team appearances and impressively netting 15 goals in league matches.
In a somewhat surprising move, January 2024 saw Afolabi transfer from Bohemian FC to the Belgian outfit Kortrijk in the Pro League - the fee remains undisclosed. The striker made ten first-team appearances and scored one goal in his sole Belgian season.
Currently, Afolabi is sharpening his striking skills with SC Cambuur in the Eerste Divisie in the Netherlands, having transferred on loan from Kortrijk in September 2024. In the ongoing 2024 - 2025 season, Afolabi has made three first-team appearances and scored one goal in league matches.
