Ah, Junior Hoilett. Born on the 5th of June 1990, and hailing all the way from the wild, wintery wastes of Canada, this wee lad is a forward by trade, currently plying his skills at Hibernian. Just getting his bearings on the 1.73m (5ft 8in) altitude he struts about at, and tipping the scales at a reasonable 70kg (11st). His preferred number? 23, if you please.
In his young and inexperienced years, back in July 2007, our boy Hoilett took a wee jaunt to Paderborn 07 in the 2. Bundesliga in Germany, managing a grand total of 12 appearances and one goal in his inaugural season. Not too shabby, I suppose.
He then decided to hop, skip and jump from Paderborn to St. Pauli in the Bundesliga, another German club, in July 2008. Here, the lad fared slightly better, making 26 appearances and helping himself to a not-so-generous portion of six goals.
In July 2009, he was on the move again, this time to Blackburn Rovers in England's Championship. Spent four seasons here, netting 16 goals overall in a rather unimpressive count of appearances.
Then, in a thrilling plot twist, in July 2012, he did a moonlight flit from Blackburn to Queens Park Rangers, with the price tag kept confidential. There, his record modestly improved, although it never exactly set the world alight.
In what can only be described as an abrupt change of plans, in June 2016, he transferred... somewhere. The details appear to be lost to the annals of football history. However, in October 2016, Hoilett resurfaced at Cardiff City where he spent a decent spell, knocking in a respectable 23 goals across five seasons.
Then, in August 2021, in a move that presumably made sense to someone, he rocked up at Reading, in Englandโs League One. Here, he made 61 appearances and scored a somewhat stingy four goals over two seasons.
Hoilett then decided to return to his native lands in September 2023, joining Vancouver Whitecaps in the US. However, he only lasted a season, making a mere seven appearances. Who knows what wonders he managed in a league where halftime snacks apparently consist of hot dogs and popcorn.
In February 2024, our wandering Canadian arrived in Scotland, signing for Premiership side Aberdeen and managing to score two goals in 13 appearances. His stay in Aberdeen was brief, and in August 2024, he nailed his colours to the mast of another Premiership club, the noble Hibernian. So far, it's one goal in three appearances. We'll see, eh?
