Kalvin Phillips, born in England on the 2nd of December 1995, is a midfielder known for his primary position as a central defensive hero at Ipswich Town. Boasting a height of five feet ten inches (1.78m in metric terms) and with a weight of 11 stone 4 pounds (approximately 72kg), Phillips clothes himself with the number 8 jersey during his time on the field.
Phillips started his football journey as a trainee with Leeds United in the English Championship in July of 2010. During his debut season in 2014-15, he made two appearances for the first team in league matches and scored a solitary goal. His 2015-16 season saw him on the field in ten league matches. The subsequent seasons saw an increase in his league appearances, with the 2016-17 season showing 33, and the 2017-18 season boasting 41. He scored seven goals in the latter season. Phillips further made 42 appearances in 2018-19, 37 in 2019-20 (scoring two goals), and 29 in 2020-21 (with one goal). His final season at Leeds in 2021-22 saw him making 20 league appearances.
In July 2022, he made a significant career move by transferring from Leeds United to Premier League heavyweight, Manchester City. The transfer fee was estimated to be around £45m, making it a lucrative deal. However, his stay at Manchester was less fruitful on the field, with only 12 first team appearances in the 2022-23 season and merely four in the 2023-24 season.
January 2024 witnessed another turn in Phillips' career when he moved to West Ham United, another Premier League club, on a loan deal. In the 2023-24 season, he managed eight first team appearances on the West Ham pitch. By June 2024, he returned to Manchester City at the end of his loan period but didn't add much to his Manchester appearances.
Seeing perhaps a further opportunity for first team play, Phillips moved to Ipswich Town in August 2024, again on loan. His contribution to Ipswich for the current 2024-25 season, as of the time of writing, stands at four first team appearances in league matches. He has also been part of the League Cup 2024-2025 for Ipswich Town, being included in the starting lineup once.
