Kyogo Furuhashi, born on 20 January 1995 in Japan, is a 30-year-old forward who primarily serves as a striker for Rennes. With his slight but nimble build, standing at 5ft 6in (1.7m) tall and weighing in at 9st 12lb (63kg), Furuhashi dons the number 7 jersey with tenacity.
As estimated by Transfermarkt, his current market value hovers around £12m, making him a sizable player in the sport. With his contract at Rennes set to conclude on 30 June 2027, he still has over two years left to make his mark.
Following a humble start, he began his journey in January 2017 at FC Gifu in the Japan Lower Leagues, his debut season seeing him secure five goals in 24 first team appearances. From here, he transferred to Vissel Kobe in the J1 League for a fee of approximately £140k in July 2018. Over subsequent seasons, he consistently improved his scoring tally.
In a momentous shift, Furuhashi transferred to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership in July 2021 for a staggering sum of nearly £4.6m. His debut 2021-2022 season for Celtic witnessed him garnering 12 goals in 20 matches. A torrent of goals followed in the 2022-2023 season, where he netted 27 times in 36 first-team appearances. Despite his scoring rate dipping slightly in the 2023-2024 season, with 14 goals in 38 matches, he remained a constant threat to opposition defences.
Furuhashi's final season at Celtic in 2024-2025 saw him bag another ten goals in 22 matches before he transferred to Rennes in Ligue 1. The move in January 2025 came with a handsome fee of around £10m. Early into his Rennes career, Furuhashi has already made his presence felt, featuring in four first-team appearances within the current season.
