Kyogo Furuhashi, hailing from the Land of the Rising Sun, Japan, joined our beloved Celtic Football Club as a proficient forward, primarily flaunting his skills as a striker. Born on the 20th day of January in the year 1995, Kyogo has grown into a prolific goal-scorer, donned in the iconic No. 8 jersey for the Hoops. Standing a modest 5ft 6in (1.7m) tall, he tips the scales at 9st 12lb (63kg).
As per Transfermarkt, Furuhashi has a current market value hovering around £12m. His commitment to Celtic is set to continue for another 2 years and 5 months, with his contract expiring on 31 May 2027.
His journey in professional football took off in earnest in January 2017, when FC Gifu of the Japanese Lower Leagues procured his services. Furuhashi's debut season saw him make 24 appearances and find the back of the net five times in league matches. However, it was in July 2018 that his career trajectory took a significant upward turn, as he transferred to Vissel Kobe in the esteemed J1 League for a nifty sum of £140k. His time at Vissel Kobe was a fruitful one, with Furuhashi making a whopping 95 appearances over various seasons—his tally of 42 goals making him an asset to his team.
The winds of the Atlantic then began to blow in Furuhashi's direction, carrying him to the shores of Scotland. In July 2021, Celtic consolidated their forward line by bringing the Japanese international onboard for around £4.6m. Since his arrival, Furuhashi has proven to be an unstoppable force, making a total of 115 appearances and netting a remarkable 62 goals over the years for the Hoops in the League alone.
Furuhashi didn't limit his performances to domestic competitions; he was a constant threat in the Champions League as well. In the competition's 2023 - 2024 season, he managed to put two between the posts in six starts. Not to forget his contribution to the League Cup 2024 - 2025 where he scored in two starts for Celtic. The current Champions League season 2024 - 2025 has also seen him scoring once in five starts, also making a cameo as a substitute.
Kyogo Furuhashi's journey with Celtic so far has been nothing short of remarkable, and there's still plenty of time for him to etch his name deeper into the pantheons of Celtic's glittering history.
