Lewis Mayo, a native of Scotland (born on 19 March 2000, thus making him 24 years old), has been thrusting his boots around various football pitches for quite a few years now. Standing at a rather imposing 6ft 3in (1.91m) and weighing in at 12 stone 12lb (82kg), he calls himself a footballer--a central defender to be precise. And apparently, Kilmarnock Football Club thought that he might look good in their number 5 jersey.
It all started for Mr Mayo back in July 2016. He sidled over to Rangers, then part of the luminary of the Scottish Premiership. A trainee he was, and a trainee he did remain. For a bit, at least.
Seems like our friend felt a tad restless being confined to the blue half of Glasgow when, in January 2020, he sauntered over on loan to Partick Thistle of the Scottish Championship. Just before the ink had even honestly dried on the loan paperwork, off he went agitatedly buzzing over to Dunfermline Athletic – also on loan and also in the bleeding Championship – in September 2020.
In a remarkable feat of locomotion, Mr Mayo found himself once again at Partick Thistle, on loan, in July 2021. Perhaps the pies in Maryhill were just too good to resist?
But wait! In July 2022, another loan. This time to Kilmarnock, now part of the flourishing Scottish Premiership. During his debut season (2022-2023), he chalked up 34 first team appearances. Not too shabby. In 2023-2024, he added a further 36 appearances and a goal to his tally. Currently, in the 2024-2025 season, he's already scored 11 first team appearances – the boy likes to keep busy, evidently.
However, in a twist that surprised absolutely nobody, in July 2023, he decided to throw his lot in permanently with Kilmarnock for an undisclosed fee. Once there, he added to his already burgeoning appearance tally in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 seasons, and has made a few outings in the current season too.
In the latest rounds of the League Cup 2024-2025, he's popped up once as a substitute. He's also started a handful of matches in the Scottish Cup 2023-2024, the Europa League Qualifiers 2024-2025, and the Conference League Qualifiers 2024-2025. The boy certainly does get around.
