We find ourselves staring morosely into the abyss of football mediocrity as we turn our gaze to the journey of one Luke Amos. Born amidst these Sceptered Isles on 23rd of February 1997, this 27-year-old has his footballing prowess situated primarily in that enigmatic role of central midfield, currently warming up the Hibernian turf. Standing at what some would call a respectably average 5ft 10in (1.79m), and checking in at a feather-light 11st 4lb (72kg), he graces the pitch in the expansive number 14 shorts.
In the long-ago summer of 2013, young Amos was inducted into the esteemed playground of Tottenham Hotspur, the English Premier League's somewhat consistent member. What can only be described as a meteoric start, he amassed a record-shattering singular first-team appearance for Hotspur in the 2018-2019 season. A feat that would make any devoted supporter reach for their green and white hankie.
Before obtaining that coveted title of Premier League benchwarmer, Amos had a jaunt at the hallowed ground of Southend United in England's National League. Yes, on loan in January 2017. During his debut 2016-2017 season with Southend United, the world watched as he managed three spectacular league appearances.
After his whirlwind tour of Southend, he scurried back to his Tottenham comfort zone in June 2017. But clearly, the desire to travel is strong in this one. He was loaned out yet again to Stevenage of League One in January 2018, only to ping pong back to Tottenham like a tracer bullet in June 2018. In what now feels like Groundhog Day, his 2018-2019 season again rewarded him with a singular league appearance. Predictably exciting stuff.
A change was afoot in July 2019. Besieged by the apparent wanderlust, Amos packed his kit for Queens Park Rangers in England's Championship, once again, on loan. He evidently found a home at QPR, with a whopping 34 appearances and two goals in his first season (2019-2020) and managed to notch up 29 appearances, scoring six times in the 2021-2022 season. By the end of 2022-2023, he'd added another 21 league appearances to his tally.
Clearly content with the pace at QPR, Amos transferred permanently from Tottenham in August 2020, for an undisclosed fee. Bless those coy football agents. Unfortunately for fans, the rest of his time at QPR proved a monotonous repeat of previous feats, with average performances and a trickle of goals.
The script changes a bit in June 2023; our intrepid midfielder went on to yet another club. Details of which, it seems, are lost in some bureaucratic black hole. It wasn't until January 2024 that Amos popped back into our realm, joining Hibernian in Scotland's Premiership to presumably soak in the refreshing Scottish rain. So far, he's clocked up seven appearances in his current 2023-2024 season and a single one (and counting) in the running 2024-2025, dressing up these numbers with appearances in the Scottish and League Cup. Let's see if he can break into double figures, eh?
