Born in Morocco on 4th August 1994, Mohamed Elyounoussi has carved out a solid career as a forward, primarily plying his trade as a left winger. Standing at a height of 5ft 10in (1.78m) and weighing 11st (70kg), Elyounoussi currently dons the number 10 shirt for FC Copenhagen.
He kicked off his career in professional football with Sarpsborg 08 in the Eliteserien in Norway. Elyounoussi joined them in January 2011 and made 9 appearances in his debut season. By 2013, he had upped his game significantly, scoring 6 goals from 29 appearances.
In March 2014, a promising Elyounoussi made a domestic switch from Sarpsborg 08 to Molde. Although the transfer fee remains undisclosed, it's certain that Molde had set their expectations high. Elyounoussi proved his worth with a stellar 2014 season, where he scored 13 goals from 30 appearances. Over the next two seasons with Molde, he continued his consistent performance, netting 17 goals in 40 appearances.
July 2016 marked the start of a new chapter for Elyounoussi as he embarked on an international journey, transferring to Basel in the Super League in Switzerland for a fee of roughly £2.8m. He scored 10 goals each in his first and second season at the club from a total of 65 appearances.
In July 2018, Elyounoussi moved from Basel to Southampton in England, commanding an impressive transfer fee of around £16m. His time at Southampton was marked by regular first-team appearances and occasional goal celebrations.
In a fascinating turn of events, Elyounoussi moved on loan from Southampton to Celtic in August 2019. He made substantial contributions to the Celtic side, scoring 14 goals from his 44 appearances across the two seasons. Interestingly, it was here at Celtic where Elyounoussi would earn two fruitful seasons of playing regularly and honing his skills further.
Upon the completion of his loan spell, he returned to Southampton in June 2021 and resumed his duties, demonstrating consistent performances over the following seasons.
His latest move came in July 2023, when he transferred from Southampton to FC Copenhagen in the Superliga in Denmark. Currently, in his second season with FC Copenhagen, Elyounoussi has already netted 16 goals from 46 appearances. Moreover, he flaunted his deftness on the international stage, showcasing his talent in both the Champions League 2023 - 2024 and the Conference League 2024 - 2025 for FC Copenhagen with commendable performances.
