Born on 25 July 1990, the Ghanaian central midfielder Mubarak Wakaso stands at a height of 5ft 7in (1.71m) and weighs 10st 12lb (69kg). Currently attached to Shenzhen FC, Wakaso's footballing journey has been a globe-trotting one.

Wakaso's professional career kicked off in July 2008, when he joined the ranks of Elche in the Segunda División in Spain. Over three seasons at Elche, Wakaso made a total of 58 league appearances, scoring just one goal. Upon leaving Elche in January 2011, Wakaso transferred to Villarreal in the Spanish LaLiga, making a total of 15 league appearances for the club across two seasons.

July 2012 saw Wakaso's move to the LaLiga club Espanyol, with a transfer fee of around £270k. During the 2012 - 2013 season at Espanyol, Wakaso participated in 26 league matches and scored three goals. The following season, Wakaso made a significant leap to Rubin Kazan in the Russian Premier League for a substantial transfer fee of around £5.3m. Despite this investment, Wakaso’s stint at Rubin Kazan was limited; he made only 16 league appearances and scored two goals across two seasons.

In August 2014, Wakaso was offloaded to Celtic in the Premiership in Scotland on a loan. Despite the fanfare often attached to such loans, Wakaso’s time on the Scottish turf was brief, securing only five league appearances for the season. As his loan spell ended, in August 2015, Wakaso then moved to Las Palmas in the Spanish LaLiga, also on loan. Over the season at Las Palmas, Wakaso racked up 20 league appearances and scored one goal.

In July 2016, Wakaso inked a permanent transfer from Rubin Kazan to Panathinaikos in the Super League in Greece. His time there was brief, with Wakaso turning out for the team in eight league matches and scoring one goal. Before the season's end, in January 2017, he was loaned to Granada in the Segunda División in Spain, playing in 11 league games and scoring once.

After a series of loans, Wakaso made a full return to Spain in July 2017, signing with LaLiga team Alaves. During his three seasons at Alaves, Wakaso played in 66 league games and scored once. With his time in Spain coming to a close, Wakaso transferred to Jiangsu Suning in China's League One with a hefty transfer fee of around £3.6m in January 2020.

Since then, Wakaso has been making moves within the Chinese leagues. He transferred to Shenzhen FC in April 2021, later going on loan to Eupen in Belgium's Challenger Pro League for the 2022-2023 season. Upon completing his loan, Wakaso returned to Shenzhen FC in June 2023. At present, in the 2024 season, Wakaso has yet to grace the pitch for any league games for Shenzhen FC.
