Well, well, well, let's regale you with the story of one Neraysho Kasanwirjo. Born 18th of February, 2002, this Dutch-born sprite fancies himself a defender. More often than not, he's seen lounging around the central defence for Rangers. Lo and behold, he also sports the weighty jersey number of 24. Isn't that something? Tall enough to snag the last biscuit from the tin, he stands at 6ft (1.85m) and supposedly weighs something in the region of 11st 13lb (76kg), or so the scales would tell you. As you'd expect, he's also done his bit for the Dutch U21 national team.
Presently, according to the crystal ball wielders at Transfermarkt, Kasanwirjo is supposedly worth around £1.5m, which seems a trivial sum to us fans in the stands, especially when the price of a half-time pie has quadrupled this season. Fun fact, his contract with Rangers is due to run out of ink on the 30th of June 2025, but I wouldn't hold my breath for any dramatic signings anytime soon.
Turning back the clock, in the warm summer of July 2011, young Kasanwirjo joined the trainee ranks at Jong Ajax. His first significant shindig was during the season of 2019 - 2020, where he managed to pull on Jong Ajax's shirt for a grand total of four first team appearances, must have been quite the year for him. In the following season at Jong Ajax, he even managed to net one, and get this, in 34 whole appearances. Miracles do happen.
In what must've been a tearful goodbye, Kasanwirjo transferred from Jong Ajax to FC Groningen, still within the Dutch borders. During the seasons of 2021 - 2023 at FC Groningen, our protagonist chalked up 47 appearances and one goal, quite the prolific scorer it seems.
In a shock move that no doubt had the football pundits chattering, Kasanwirjo transferred from FC Groningen to Feyenoord for a meagre £1.5m. People have misplaced more down the back of their sofas. Across two seasons at Feyenoord, he made seven appearances. He certainly knows how to make an impression.
Intrigue followed our hero as he was transferred, on loan no less, from Feyenoord to Rapid Vienna. Austrian Bundesliga must have seemed like a whole new playground to him. He managed 23 appearances in the season, must have found his stride finally.
Feeling homesick, Kasanwirjo returned from Rapid Vienna to Feyenoord to continue warming the benches with a total of seven appearances across two seasons. He finally moved to Rangers where he is currently continuing his career by making six appearances in the current season.
If you're keen on stats, Kasanwirjo has made a grand total of two substitute appearances in the League Cup 2024 - 2025 for Rangers, four starts and one substitute appearance in UEFA U21 Championship Qualifiers 2024 - 2025 for Netherlands U21, and one start and three substitute appearances in the Europa League 2024 - 2025 for Rangers. A true journeyman of the beautiful game.
