Born on 4 May 2001 in Austria, Nicolas Seiwald, a central midfielder currently plying his trade for RB Leipzig, has built a formidable career at the age of 23. With a height of 5ft 10in (1.8m) and weighing in at 12st 3lb (78kg), Seiwald is not a daunting figure on the pitch, however, his intelligent play has earned him a prestigious reputation. He has also had the honour of representing his homeland, Austria, on the international stage.
According to Transfermarkt, Seiwald's market value is estimated to be roundabout £14m. Keeping an eye on his progress, RB Leipzig secured his services until 30 June 2028 with three years and eight months remaining on his contract at present.
In July 2014, Seiwald began his professional journey with FC Liefering in Austria's 2. Liga as a trainee. As a burgeoning talent, he made three first team appearances in the 2018-2019 season. By the 2019-2020 season, Seiwald had developed into a solid player, featuring in 23 league games and netting three goals. Despite only playing 11 matches in the 2020-2021 season, he helped contribute two goals to FC Liefering's campaign.
Seiwald transferred from FC Liefering to Red Bull Salzburg in July 2020. Over the course of three seasons at Salzburg, he made a total of 78 league appearances, with his best season being the 2021-2022 effort where he played in 32 league matches. His final season at Salzburg, 2022-2023, saw him playing 31 games and scoring three league goals.
In July 2023, after being snapped up by German top-flight side RB Leipzig for a fee estimated to be around £17m, Seiwald made his Bundesliga debut. In the 2023-2024 season, he made 21 first team appearances. At present, during the 2024-2025 season, he continues his journey at Leipzig with five league appearances.
Seiwald's performances on the international stage and club competitions are also noteworthy. He has made appearances in the Champions League for RB Leipzig, both in 2023-2024 with three starts and one substitute appearance, and 2024-2025 with one start and two substitute appearances. He also represented Austria in Euro 2024 with four starts and in Euro Qualifiers 2022 - 2024 with eight starts. Seiwald continues to represent Austria in the Nations League 2024 - 2025 with four starts.
