Born in England on October 2, 2000, Richard Taylor is a 24-year-old central defender currently playing for Scottish Premiership side St Mirren. Taylor stands at 6ft 2in (1.89m) and weighs 13st (83kg). Wearing the number 5 jersey, he has demonstrated his defensive prowess with determination and skill.
Taylor began his professional career at Burnley in England's Championship league. In July 2019, he transferred to Southend United, a team then competing in England's National League. However, his time there was punctuated by a brief loan spell at fellow league club Barnet in February 2021. After returning from his loan in March the same year, Taylor spent more time with Southend United before leaving the club in June 2021.
After a brief spell without a club, Taylor joined Dagenham & Redbridge in the National League in November 2021. His time at Dagenham & Redbridge was relatively short-lived as, in January 2022, Taylor transferred to Waterford in Ireland's Premier Division. Making 28 first team appearances and netting one goal during his debut season, Taylor left a memorable impact.
In January 2023, Taylor made his move to the Scottish Premiership with St Mirren and has since become a mainstay in their defence. During the 2022-2023 season, he made 11 first team appearances, before significantly increasing his play time in the following season with 26 league appearances. As of the 2024-25 season, Taylor has appeared seven times.
Outside of league football, Taylor has also played for St Mirren in the League Cup 2024-25, where he made a substitute appearance, as well as featuring with four starts in the 2024-25 Conference League Qualifiers. Taylor's journeys through England's football leagues to the Scottish Premiership exemplify his adaptability and resilience as a central defender.
