Our very own nomadic goalkeeper, Robby McCrorie, seems to have had more clubs than I've had hot dinners. Interestingly enough, he always remained within Scottish soil. Clearly a man with a clear allergy to warmer climates, more power to him.
He was listed as a trainee at Rangers in July 2015, where he took up the noble art of warming up the subs bench, clocking in a total of a breath-taking one whole appearance in his first grand season of 2021-2022. As if that wasn't enough vanishing act, he managed to repeat the feat in season 2022-2023, this time with a whole four appearances. I'm sure the crowds were simply beside themselves with anticipation.
McCrorie then hopped on a northbound train in July 2017 to join the lowly Berwick Rangers in the Lowland League on loan. There he got to stretch his legs a bit more regularly, with a grand tally of 19 appearances in the 2017-2018 season. Quite a step up from his previous record indeed.
See-sawing back to Rangers in the Premiership in June 2018, after his glamour stint at Berwick came to an end, he continued in the same vein, clocking up another single appearance in the 2021-2022 season and managing to quadruple it the following season.
Then, like a lost bird seeking its flock, he meandered his way to Greenock Morton in the Championship on loan in January 2019 and further on to Queen of the South in League One later in July 2019.
Finally, in January 2020, McCrorie ended up at Livingston in the Championship, where he managed to really settle into a rhythm of sorts, making eight grand appearances in the 2019-2020 season, and a stunning 16 matches the following season. A new personal best for our brave hero.
In June 2020, he set sail once again, returning to Rangers and, in an astonishing feat of consistency, managed to notch up another solitary appearance in the 2021-2022 season. In the following season, he quadrupled this tally, clocking 4 games under his belt. Sounds depressingly familiar, doesn't it?
Then, in July 2020, as if he hadn't had enough of Livingston, he cheerily returned there on loan. He repeated his past antics, securing eight appearances in the 2019-2020 season, and a whopping 16 the following season. Take note, folks, consistency and repetition are the keys to success. Or perhaps in our dear McCrorie's case, mediocrity.
Pulled back to Rangers once more in June 2021, he embarked on another predictable journey, clocking in a solitary game in the 2021-2022 season, and four appearances in the 2022-2023 season.
To spice up this repetitive walkabout, in July 2024 McCrorie garlanded his career by levitating towards Kilmarnock in the Premiership for an elusive sum that remains undisclosed. I'm sure the accountants shed a tear in the process. For the current season of 2024-2025, he may have to trade in his beloved subs bench, having already made two appearances for Kilmarnock. Fans can only survive on the edge of their seats for so long.
