In January 2011, McKenzie joined Kilmarnock in the Premiership in Scotland. His debut season gave him only one appearance in league matches, but his talent began to shine through as his career unfolded. He made 22 appearances in the 2012-2013 season, netting two goals. In the following season, he made even more appearances, totaling 33, and increased his goal tally to four. His performance remained consistent, making 28 appearances each in the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 seasons, with a singular goal scored in the latter season. He proved to be a reliable player for Kilmarnock over the following seasons, clocking in a steady number of appearances and securing goals periodically.
His journey included a loan spell at Brechin City in the Highland League, commencing in January 2012. He had a successful run there, appearing 17 times in league matches and scoring seven goals. He returned to Kilmarnock in July of the same year. His time at Kilmarnock continued from there on, his play becoming a backbone for the team. He contributed in the League Cup, Scottish Cup, Europa and Conference League Qualifiers between 2023 and 2025 with starts and substitutes appearances respectively.
Given his years of reliable and consistent service to Kilmarnock, McKenzie earned his place as a familiar face in Scottish football. His contributions both on and off the ball have continually proven why Kilmarnock values his presence on the pitch.
