Born on 15 February 1988, the Portuguese goalkeeper, Rui Patrício, currently stands between the posts for Atalanta. Standing at a formidable 6ft 2in (1.89m), and weighing in at 13st 3lb (84kg), it's easy to see why he's an imposing figure in the goal mouth. Patrício proudly wears the number 28 jersey for Atalanta.
According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is approximately £1m. His existing contract with Atalanta is running out, with nine months left until it's set to expire on 30 June 2025.
Patrício's early journey in football saw him join Sporting CP in the Liga Portugal as a trainee in July 2005. His subsequent success and growth were evident in the steady increase in his first team appearances each season at Sporting CP. From a single appearance in his debut season 2006-2007, to regular appearances in the subsequent seasons, his development was clear for all to see.
In July 2018, Patrício embarked on a new journey with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Premier League. Over his tenure at Wolverhampton, he maintained a high level of consistency appearing no less than 37 times in league matches each season.
His skills then attracted the attention of Serie A club Roma, leading to a transfer in July 2021 for an approximate fee of £10m. After making significant contributions in his period at Roma, Patrício was once again on the move in August 2024, this time being signed the Serie A club Atalanta.
In the ongoing 2024-2025 season, he has yet to make his first team debut for Atalanta in league matches.
