Ryan Porteous, a native of Scotland, came into the world on the 25th of March, 1999. At 6ft 2in tall and weighing 11st 11lb, his position as a central defender is well suited to his measurements. These days, you will find him on the Championship pitch for Watford, sporting the number 5 shirt. His footballing prowess has also seen him draped in the national colours of Scotland.
In the current Championship season for Watford, he has pulled on the boots just once, but ensuring he was part of the action from the start. Originally signed by Hibernian in Scotland's Premiership, Porteous found himself loaned out to Edinburgh City in League Two in Scotland come July 2016. After serving his time on loan, he returned to Hibernian in July 2017. However, his time with Hibs would eventually come to a close in January 2023, with a transfer to Watford in the Championship in England, for a fee of around £500k.
Career stats
During his debut season with Edinburgh City in 2016-17, he found himself gracing the pitch on 23 occasions, and pleasing the crowd with three goals. Following his return to Hibernian, he made a modest six appearances and scored once in the 2017-18 season. From 2018-23 he progressively racked up appearances, tallying up 114 appearances and contributing ten goals across all competitive matches.
Since his arrival at Watford, he has carried on his consistent form, adding another 55 appearances and four goals to his overall stats. In the ongoing 2024-25 season, he has just had a single outing in the starting eleven.
