Sam Lammers, born on the last day of April in 1997. The wee chap hails from Netherlands and puts his boots on for FC Twente as a forward, though you'll mostly find him shuffling about the pitch as a striker. Dorty old thing, stands 6ft 3in (1.91m) tall and weighs in at approximately 12st 8lb (80kg). And wouldn't you know it, he's taken quite a shine to the number 10 jersey.
It all began back in July of 2010 when Lammers joined PSV, a fine team in the Eredivisie over there in Netherlands, as a trainee. For a few years there, in seasons 2016 to 2018 and again in 2019 to 2020, Lammers showed some early promise with a handful of reliable performances for PSV. Then, in 2020, PSV thought to give him another shot and he responded with an unremarkable one appearance in the league matches.
Then, in what some may call a career move, Lammers was loaned out to SC Heerenveen in the same league, the Eredivisie. There, he strutted out onto the field 31 times in the 2018-2019 season, finding the back of the net 16 times. A hastily return to PSV in 2019 wrapped up that chapter of his career.
In a twist of fate or perhaps a poorly calculated financial decision, PSV sold Lammers to Atalanta in Italy's Serie A for a fee of around £8.1m in September 2020. His time there had him gracing the field 17 times across two seasons, and scoring a modest total of two goals in league matches.
Then followed a football nomad period for Lammers. In August 2021, Atalanta packed him off on a loan to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. 2022 found him loaned out to Empoli and Sampdoria, both times in Italy's Serie A and B respectively. Who can say what was going on behind the scenes, but our Sam kept right on playing right up to the 2023 season.
Then, in a move that raised a few eyebrows, Lammers signed on the dotted line for a move to Rangers in Scotland's Premiership for a fee of around £3m in July 2023. A solid debut season for the chap with the Rangers saw him net twice with 17 appearances.
The Rangers, inexplicably, then sent him off to FC Utrecht on loan in January 2024, where he earned his keep with a respectable ten goals across 18 league matches. However, half a year later, Rangers thought it'd be a smashing idea to sell him to FC Twente in the Netherlands for some £2.5m. The 2024-2025 season has seen Lammers make eight league appearances so far and scored three times. So far, so decent.
He took a brief jaunt in the Champions League Qualifiers 2024-2025 for FC Twente and had another go in the Europa league for the same club, managing to pot a goal in two starts. Rendering the phrase "Football is a simple game complicated by idiots" rather relevant, wouldn't you say?
