We've got Scotland's own Scott Wright up for discussion today, born in the same year as the indomitable Harry Potter - 1997. With twenty-seven revolutions of the sun under his belt, he stands at a respectable 5ft 8in (1.75m for those of ye preferring metric), weighing in at 10st 3lb (65kg). There's nae royalty on offer here, but he does wear the number 11 jersey, if that’s worth something to ye.
Starting professional life in the glow of the northern lights in 2014 with Aberdeen, Wright spent the lion's share of his time being as noticeable as a mouse in a field, managing a measly one league appearance in his debut season. After repeating this oh-so-inspiring performance in season two, he then had the audacity to score three goals in five appearances in the 2016-17 season - an exercise in overperformance if ever I saw one.
The following seasons saw him mucking about with Aberdeen with varying degrees of invisibility, before he was then passed off on loan to Dundee in 2019 like a hand-me-down Christmas jumper. Canny man that he is though, he managed to rack up three goals in thirteen appearances. Of course, Aberdeen missed him so much they dragged him right back again after his loan at Dundee was over.
Then, in February 2021, someone at Rangers took leave of their senses long enough to handover £150,000 for his services. There, our brave hero managed to pull out one goal and nine appearances in his first season. Since then, he's been a productive member of the squad, if you can call a smattering of goals over several seasons productive.
Just when folks at Rangers were getting used to his antics though, Birmingham City swooped in and bagged him for a sweet £300,000. Since his move, Wright has managed to stay consistent with one goal and five appearances. Something about leopards not changing their spots comes to mind.
Surprisingly, Wright was seen participating in the EFL Trophy 2024 - 2025 for Birmingham City, managing two astonishing goals in just two starts. A veritable goal machine, that lad. His unpredictability is about the only predictable thing about him. Here’s to more years of goal-scoring mediocrity for our dear, Scott Wright.
