Chalmers played for 13 seasons for Celtic between February 1959 and September 1971, helping the side to six league titles, three Scottish Cups and five League Cups, as well as being part of the Lisbon Lions side. After leaving Celtic Park, he had brief spells with Greenock Morton and Partick Thistle before his playing retirement in 1975. (He did make a very brief comeback with junior club St Roch’s during the 1975–76 season.)
His career being most successful at Celtic, Stevie Chalmers scored the fourth most goals for the club and is remembered as one of the greatest players ever for Celtic. Chalmers’ son Paul would also later play for Celtic. Chalmers’ father, David, played for Clydebank.
