Following the wonderful success in Wicklow on Friday night, the Celtic Sleep Out, Glasgow took place for the ninth time at Celtic Park on Saturday night with 120 incredible Foundation supporters facing the elements overnight. Collectively, they have already raised a phenomenal net total in excess of £50K for this year’s Christmas Appeal, with fundraising ongoing, and there’s still time to get behind the team by donating online HERE. Arriving prepared for the night ahead, supporters were welcomed to Paradise with a thanks from Head of Foundation, Jane Maguire, before hearing from Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, through our 2024 Christmas Appeal VT. After a safety briefing from the Foundation team, former Celtic captain, Stephen McManus was on hand to show his support for our participants, as he joined them for a group photo before wishing them well for the long night ahead. A dry but cold November night met the participants, as the challenge of spending eight hours – from 10.00pm to 6.00am – under the stars in Paradise kicked off. Celtic Park events very generously supplied an unlimited amount of complimentary tea, coffee and, of course, Bovril throughout the night to keep everyone warm. Despite the freezing cold conditions, a large portion of the group slept through the elements in front of the Jock Stein stand, while others braved areas trackside and in the South Stand. The group began packing up after a long night and participants were offered the opportunity to donate their sleeping bags and camping mats. The response, as always, was outstanding and the contributions made to The Invisibles and The Wayside Club will make a huge difference for many sleeping rough on the streets of Glasgow. The event was rounded off with a warm breakfast in the Jock Stein Lounge and we are extremely grateful to club suppliers Bidfood, Campbell Prime Meats and Premier Produce for generously donating all of the food supplies for this event. Celtic FC Foundation would like to thank each and every Sleep Out participant for their incredible efforts, as well as everyone who supported them along the way. You have made a genuine difference to those in our community, who are most in need. Through this year’s Christmas Appeal, we hope to assist local families facing poverty, so they can enjoy the type of Christmas that many of us take for granted. As well as pensioners, women and children in refuge, the homeless community, refugees, and a host of others who would otherwise struggle over the festive period. Our final Sleep Out event of the 2024 Appeal will be our seventh in London and will take place on Friday, December 13, in the grounds of St Anne’s Primary School in Whitechapel.
