STRIKE 1896 One of the phenomena of the 1890s in Victorian Britain was the proliferation of industrial militancy, as Trade Unions grew stronger and the nascent Labour movement began to make justified demands for fairer treatment of the workers. Another Victorian motif was the freedom of the Press, something that had been much fought for in the earlier part of the 19th century.
